Snow

Snow, not a little dusting but real accumulation of snow. Two of our grandchildren were staying the night with us and they were so excited to go out to play in it. I think you can tell from the pictures, we were having loads of fun. They made snow angels, tried to build a fort and snowman, and managed to hit GiGi many times with snowballs. GiGi was able to get a few snowballs thrown back at them. Papaw had the camera so they knew not to throw snow at him. :) We had a blast.

For Today!

I have been thinking today, I know that is a scary thought. Since it is November, and is the month to be thankful that I would write about what I am thankful for.

So for today: I am thankful for Don, who is a good husband, father and friend and that he loves me.
I am thankful for my kids and my grandkids; they are the light of my life and my reason for living.
I am thankful for my sister. She has been a shoulder to lean on in some of the worst of times.
I am thankful for my semi decent health.
I am thankful for my friends.
I am thankful for all the extended family ( even the “crazy” ones)
I am thankful for my job and Don’s job that allow us the comforts of living.
I am thankful because I am so truly blessed.

This is just a few of the things that I am thankful for. Maybe you could take a moment and think about your blessings and what you are thankful for.

I love you all.

Hotels/Motels/Condos

I have decided I don't like hotels/motels, or even condos that you rent. It doesn't matter how clean they appear, they really are not. The sheets seem clean but you know that the comforter on top has not been changed in forever. The towels are anyone's guess as to how sanitary they are. The remote control, the hairdryer etc...., really are they ever wiped down and cleaned?

The walls are paper thin so that you hear almost everything that goes on next door.

The continental breakfast, although in some hotels is ok, most of the time the food is day old and not very appetizing.

I know there are times where you have to stay overnight in one of these places, but are there any out there that get more than a lick and a promise when cleaning.

And why is it that you always have to search for the remote, how about putting it on the t.v.?

Let me know if you have had good luck with any particular one.

I wish I owned an RV. :)

short story

A VERY SHORT STORY

Man driving down road.
Woman driving up same road.
They pass each other.
Woman yells out window, PIG!
Man yells out window, BITCH!
Man rounds next curve.
Man crashes into a HUGE PIG in middle of road and dies.

Thought For the Day:

If men would just listen ....

new kitchen

It has been a long couple of months and we still have a lot to do but we are getting closer to it being finished. Here is a sneak peek for you.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

So I was thinking

Can you cry under water?

If you have sex with a prostitute against her will, is it considered rape or shoplifting?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change?

They're going to see you naked anyway.

Why is 'bra' singular and 'panties' plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

If the professor on Gilligan'sIslandcan make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Why, Why, Why

Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead?

Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough money?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'?

If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?

Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?

Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?

Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try?

How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?

When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, 'It's all right?' Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, 'That really hurt, why don't you watch where you're going?'

Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?

How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?

And my FAVORITE.......

The statistics on sanity is that one out of every four persons are suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.

weekend of demolition

Friday night, we made our first trip to the dump with the debri from the remodel. Early Saturday morning, we are up and tearing things out. We made another trip to the dump. We put in a very long day. Sunday came and we are back at it again. No rest for us.
The down stairs area has no carpet now, a better closet, new doors ( one already hung), no microwave cabinet. The list of "to do's" is still very long.

I am to old for this. I ache in places that I didn't even realize could hurt. Here are some pictures.

A different kind of tearing things up happened also. On the trip to the dump Saturday, the trailer jack knifed and hit the side of my car.

Layla

Layla played her first season of soccer this spring. On Saturday, she played her last game of the season and was awarded a throphy. She started out bashful on the field, and not wanting to be out there without mommy. She ended the season out there by herself, and was excited to get her trophy.

We are so proud of you Layla.

thoughts for the day

The Zen of Sarcasm

01. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.

02. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and leaky tire.

03. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

04. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

05. Always remember that you're unique. Just like everyone else.

06. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

07. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.

08. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

09. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is probably not for you.

10. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

11. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably a wise investment.

12. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.
13. Some days you're the bug; some days you're the windshield.

14. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

15. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

16. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

17. Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

18. I didn't care for this one, so I deleted it.

19. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.

20. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

21. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
AND
22. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Madie

Yesterday was the last day of school and Madie was in a play. She was the narrator for Charlotte's Web. She did a great job and I am very proud of her. The performance was great and I am glad she invited me to come. I love you Madie!

I am proud of Madie and Kenzie, they both made the A/B honor roll for the year. Congratulations girls.

Happy Birthday Kelli & Kevin

No one can count on the future
or know what they someday might do,
But could I have chosen the "twins" that I wanted,
the ones I'd have picked would have been you.
I'd have wished for your great sense of humor
and dreamed of your spirit and style.
I'd have hoped for your love and affection,
imagined the joy in your smile...
Life holds some gifts and surprises,
and one of the best there could be
is having "twins" who's exactly the ones
who's already been given to me.

>

It seems like yesterday the dr. said "twins". As you grew up, started school, made friends, participated in sports, went to college, and now are adults, my heart overflows with pride and love for you. Dad & I love you very much and hope you have a wonderful birthday.

Just thinking.

Did I text or email you and you didn't answer? Did you text or email me and I didn't answer?

We live in a society of faceless conversations. We send messages through Facebook or MySpace, email or text. When was the last time, you picked up the phone and called? When was the last time you actually visited?

Why is it that people are to busy to sit on the front porch and have a glass of ice tea and talk face to face? & not keep looking at your watch as if you have something more important to do.

Where did our sense of being together and enjoying listening to the birds and the kids play go?

Are we to busy? Are we uncaring? Are we rude? Do we think it doesn't matter?

Have we lost our values? Have we lost our manners?

You tell me.

Because it matters to me.

Happy 2nd Birthday Sweet Delia

We sing Happy Birthday
You play midst wrap and bows
We marvel how you touched our lives
Just two years ago

I remember the first time I held you,
Kissed your head, whispered your name.
You've changed our lives forever,
Our hearts will never be the same.

As a child you'll love this day,
For all the sweets and presents too.
As grandparents we'll love your day,
For the gift we got was you.

Each year we'll add another candle,
So proud to see you grow.
But always with the memory,
Of your first day long ago.

Happy Birthday!!
May your day be as special as you are to us.
Love you,
GiGi and Papaw
